1992 was the unofficial "year of the woman" in American politics, where record numbers of women won seats in Congress, the U.S. Senate, and state legislatures. This was not replicated in subsequent elections. The author asks female officeholders what happened to the momentum. Their answers mix clear-eyed optimism with cautionary tales about the reality of being a woman in politics.
